Quick Tip 24 – Choosing a domain name
Choosing a domain name isn’t something that should be taken lightly. It is a very important aspect of your companies branding and can play a part in your websites SEO (search engine optimisation).
Obviously everyone’s first choice would be their companies name, followed by either a .co. or .com address. However, with the internet being the force it is today, it’s very unlikely it will still be available. So what next?

Well the next step is to try to introduce a keyword relating to your business so rather than being a hindrance, it actually becomes a benefit. A good example of this is www.browns-restaurants.co.uk. This should actually enhance your optimisation for that particular phrase – in this case ‘restaurants’. That being said try not to go OTT, for example… www.websitedesignandoptimisationleicester.co.uk, otherwise it becomes difficult to remember and increases the chance of spelling mistakes.
Finally, when you come to buy and host the domain, always use a reputable company such as 123 Reg, Fasthosts or 1and1 and avoid american hosting with .co.uk domains.
